Intrauterine insemination (IUI) places the partner’s sperm, prepared in the laboratory, directly into the uterus at the time of ovulation. At the Boudra Fertility Center, the first IVF center in Fes, Dr Najib Boudra offers IUI after assessing the couple, with ultrasound monitoring of every cycle.

IUI brings sperm closer to the egg at the right moment. The partner’s semen is collected on the day, then prepared in the laboratory to concentrate the most motile sperm. They are then placed in the uterine cavity through a thin catheter.
Fertilization then happens naturally, in the fallopian tube. That is the main difference from IVF and ICSI, where fertilization takes place in the laboratory. To compare both, read our article IUI or IVF: what is the difference?.
After assessing the couple, Dr Boudra may suggest IUI in cases of:
Hormone treatment may be prescribed to help one or two follicles mature.
An injection triggers ovulation; insemination is planned about 36 hours later.
On the day, the semen is prepared in the laboratory and placed in the uterus. It is quick and usually causes little discomfort.
A blood test is done about two weeks later.

Dr Najib Boudra explains at every step what is done and why. The chances of pregnancy depend mainly on the woman’s age, the cause of infertility and sperm quality, and he discusses them with you individually.
The main risk is a multiple pregnancy, which is limited by gentle stimulation and close monitoring. If several inseminations do not succeed, he may suggest IVF or ICSI as part of your assisted reproduction care.

It is similar to a gynecological examination with a speculum. It takes a few minutes and needs no anesthesia. Some women feel mild cramping, like a period.
The number of attempts is decided with Dr Boudra based on your age, your tests and how the first cycles went. If IUI does not work, IVF or ICSI may be considered.
A short rest is offered after the procedure. You can then return to your usual activities.
With IUI, fertilization happens inside the body. With IVF, eggs are collected and fertilized in the laboratory. Read our IUI or IVF comparison.
