Embryo freezing makes it possible to keep good quality embryos that are not transferred straight away after IVF or ICSI. At the Boudra Fertility Center, the first IVF center in Fes, they are frozen by vitrification and stored for a later transfer, with no new stimulation or egg collection.

During IVF or ICSI, several embryos may develop. One or two are transferred to the uterus; the remaining good quality embryos can be frozen. They offer another chance of pregnancy without repeating the whole treatment.
Freezing also helps when an immediate transfer is not advisable: risk of ovarian hyperstimulation, an unfavourable uterine lining, or medical treatment that means a pregnancy must wait.
The embryologists assess each embryo and select those suitable for freezing.
The embryo is placed in a protective solution and cooled very quickly, which prevents ice crystals from forming.
Embryos are stored in liquid nitrogen, labelled and traced.
When the time comes, the embryo is warmed and transferred during a prepared cycle, natural or with light hormone treatment.

Preparation of the uterus is monitored by ultrasound so that the embryo is transferred at the most favourable time. The transfer is quick and usually painless, as in IVF.
Dr Najib Boudra decides with you how many embryos to freeze and when to transfer. Embryos are used only for the couple’s own plans, with their consent. To prepare, also read the steps of IVF in Fes.

No. Only embryos whose development allows it are frozen. The laboratory team tells you how many embryos have been stored after each IVF or ICSI.
Vitrification was designed to protect cells during freezing. Most vitrified embryos cope well with warming, but no result can be guaranteed in advance.
They can be stored for several years. The center regularly reviews the couple’s plans with them.
No. The transfer takes place in a natural cycle or one prepared with light treatment, with no new ovarian stimulation or egg collection.
