During pregnancy, aspirin should never be taken without medical advice. At a low dose, a doctor may prescribe it to some women, for example to reduce the risk of preeclampsia. At painkiller or anti-inflammatory doses it should be avoided, and it is contraindicated from the sixth month. Dr Najib Boudra, obstetrician gynecologist in Fes, can advise you.

Low-dose aspirin acts mainly on blood clotting and circulation in the placenta. A doctor may prescribe it to women at high risk of preeclampsia, for example after preeclampsia in a previous pregnancy. Treatment usually starts early and stops on a date set by the doctor.
Aspirin at painkiller or anti-inflammatory doses is different. It should not be used for self-medication in pregnancy and is contraindicated from the sixth month, because it can affect the baby’s heart and kidneys. For pain or fever, ask your doctor what to take.
To take aspirin safely:

During pregnancy follow-up, Dr Najib Boudra assesses your risk factors and decides whether treatment is useful. He monitors its effects through consultations and ultrasound scans.
After assisted reproduction, IVF or ICSI, some women also receive treatment suited to their situation: do not stop or change it without talking to the doctor. Also read what happens at a first gynecology appointment.
