Dr Najib Boudra, obstetrician gynecologist with over 30 years of experience, performs gynecological ultrasound at the Boudra Fertility Center, 7 Rue Abdelkrim El Khattabi in Fes: a painless examination with no X-rays to look at the uterus and ovaries, follow a pregnancy or monitor fertility treatment.

Ultrasound uses sound waves to produce images of the uterus, its lining and the ovaries. It uses no X-rays and can be repeated when useful, including during pregnancy.
Dr Najib Boudra performs it himself, often during the gynecology consultation. He shows you the images and explains what he sees.
Dr Boudra may suggest it in particular for:
Depending on the route, you will be asked to have a full bladder or, on the contrary, to empty it.
You lie down. The probe is placed on your abdomen or gently inserted into the vagina.
The examination takes a few minutes. It is painless, sometimes slightly uncomfortable.
Dr Boudra explains the results and tells you whether another test is needed.

With the abdominal route, the probe is placed on the lower abdomen with a gel. It gives an overall view of the pelvis and often requires a full bladder.
With the transvaginal route, a thin, covered and lubricated probe is inserted into the vagina. Being closer to the organs, it gives more precise images of the uterus and ovaries. The doctor chooses the most suitable route and explains it before the examination.

During pregnancy, ultrasound dates the pregnancy, follows the baby’s growth and checks its development. See our pregnancy ultrasound schedule.
During assisted reproduction, repeated scans follow the growth of the follicles and help choose the right time for insemination or egg collection. The doctor always sets the timing of the scans according to your situation.

No. The examination is painless. The transvaginal route can be slightly uncomfortable, but it is done gently and the doctor explains each step.
For an abdominal ultrasound, a full bladder often improves the images. For a transvaginal ultrasound, the bladder should be empty. The secretariat tells you how to prepare when you book.
Ultrasound uses sound waves, not X-rays. It is used routinely in pregnancy. Dr Boudra prescribes it when it is useful for you and your baby.
It depends on the question being asked. For a fertility work-up, the scan is often done early in the cycle. Dr Boudra tells you the right time for your situation.
